Juicy Katsu Sandwich
A Tokyo convenience store legend. Crispy chicken or pork katsu slathered in tangy sauce and sandwiched between pillows of fluffy milk bread.
Ingredients
- 1 Crispy Chicken Katsu or Tonkatsun2 slices Japanese Shokupan fluffy white breadn1 cup Finely shredded green cabbagen1.5 tbsp Tonkatsu saucen1 tbsp Kewpie mayonnaisenSoftened butter for spreading
Instructions
- Step 1: Shred the cabbage as finely as possible and submerge in ice water for 2 minutes to make it extra crunchy, then drain completely.nStep 2: Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice to prevent the sandwich from getting soggy.nStep 3: Dip or brush both sides of your warm crispy katsu cutlet generously with Tonkatsu sauce.nStep 4: Place the sauced katsu onto a slice of bread, pile a mountain of shredded cabbage on top, drizzle with Kewpie mayo, and top with the second bread slice.nStep 5: Place a light weight (like a cutting board) on the sandwich for 2 minutes to compress.
- Slice off the crusts cleanly and cut down the middle to reveal the cross-section.
