Course Rice & Sushi

Notes

Temaki Sushi (Hand Rolls) is the ultimate fun, casual, and interactive way to enjoy sushi at home. Guests wrap crisp sheets of nori seaweed around vinegared sushi rice and their favorite fillings like sashimi salmon, avocado, and cucumber.

Ingredients (Family Platter)

  • 4 cups Seasoned Sushi Rice (room temperature)
  • 10 Nori seaweed sheets (cut cleanly in half into rectangles)
  • Sashimi fillings: Tuna, Salmon, or yellowtail strips
  • Vegetable fillings: Cucumber strips, Avocado slices, shiso leaves
  • Soy sauce, Wasabi, and Pickled ginger (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Set up the table: Arrange the sushi rice, nori halves, and all sliced sashimi and vegetable fillings on separate platters in the center of the dining table so everyone can reach.
  2. The Nori base: Hold a half-sheet of nori horizontally in your left palm (shiny side facing down).
  3. Spread rice: Spread about 2 tablespoons of sushi rice evenly over the left half of the nori sheet. Dab a tiny dot of wasabi onto the rice.
  4. Add fillings diagonally: Place your favorite combination of sashimi salmon, cucumber, and avocado diagonally across the center of the rice.
  5. Roll into a cone: Take the bottom-left corner of the nori and fold it up and over the fillings, rolling tightly towards the top-right corner to form a perfect, beautiful cone shape. Eat immediately while the nori remains shatteringly crisp!
