Family Temaki Sushi (Hand Rolls)

The most fun, interactive way to eat sushi at home! A massive platter of fresh seafood, crisp vegetables, and seasoned rice is placed in the center of the table. Everyone grabs a piece of crisp nori and rolls their own custom, cone-shaped sushi.
Course Rice & Sushi

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Seasoned sushi rice
  • 10 half-sheets Nori seaweed crisp
  • 1/2 lb Sashimi-grade Tuna cut into thick matchsticks
  • 1/2 lb Sashimi-grade Salmon cut into thick matchsticks
  • 1 Cucumber julienned
  • 1 Ripe avocado sliced
  • 1/2 cup Spicy mayonnaise
  • Soy sauce and Wasabi

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ingredients: Cut all of the fillings—the tuna, salmon, cucumber, and avocado—into long, thick matchsticks. This shape makes them perfectly suited to stick out of the top of the hand rolls. Arrange them beautifully on a large central serving platter.
  • Set the Table: Place the warm, seasoned sushi rice in a large bowl with a rice paddle. Keep the Nori sheets in a dry place or a specialized Nori box so they remain shatteringly crisp.
  • How to Roll: Hold a half-sheet of Nori flat in the palm of your non-dominant hand. Spread a small, thin layer of sushi rice covering only the left third of the Nori sheet.
  • Add Fillings: Place your desired fish and vegetables diagonally across the rice. Add a tiny dab of spicy mayonnaise or wasabi.
  • Form the Cone: Fold the bottom-left corner of the Nori up and over the fillings, rolling it tightly into a cone shape, wrapping the right side of the Nori around to seal it. Eat immediately while the seaweed is crunchy!
