Spinach and Bacon Sauté
A universally loved Japanese homestyle side dish (Horenso to Bacon no Itamemono). The savory, salty rendered fat from the bacon perfectly coats the fresh spinach, while a tiny splash of soy sauce brings an irresistible umami depth. Ready in just 5 minutes!
Course Sides & Appetizers
- 1 bunch Fresh spinach
- 3 slices Bacon
- 1 tbsp Unsalted butter
- 1 tsp Soy sauce
- 1 pinch Black pepper
Preparation: Wash the spinach thoroughly and cut it into 2-inch lengths. Slice the bacon into bite-sized strips.
Cook the Bacon: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon strips and sauté until they are slightly crispy and have released their fat.
Add Spinach: Add the chopped spinach to the skillet. Toss continuously for 1 to 2 minutes until the leaves are just wilted but still bright green.
Season: Drizzle the soy sauce over the spinach and sprinkle with black pepper. Toss one last time to coat everything evenly.
Serve: Remove from heat immediately to prevent overcooking the spinach. Serve hot alongside rice or your main dish.
